User Overrides and Granting Extensions for Timed Exams and Quizzes

 

  • Grant Extensions in a Moodle Assignment

  • Create User Overrides within a Moodle Assignment

  • Create User Overrides within a Moodle Quiz

These actions allow extra time for students to submit and carry out the quiz or exam.


Granting Extensions in a Moodle Assignment

  1. Turn editing on

  2. Click on the submission link of your Moodle assignment and then click on View all submissions

  3. Click on Edit and then Grant extension

  4. Amend the new extension due date and time and click on Save changes

  5. You will know when the extension has applied, because it will show in the view all submissions box

Adding User/Group Overrides in a Moodle Assignment

  1. Turn editing on

  2. Click into your assignment link you have set up and in the assignment administration block on the left-hand side, click on User override. (you may have to scroll down to be able to see this block) Or you can access the user/group overrides through by clicking on the Course management button and then under Assignment or Quiz administration, click on user/group overrides.

  3. Click on Add user override or Group Override (You can only use Group override if you have created the groups first. See our How to create Groups guide)

  4. In the next box that appears, in the Search box, find the user/group you wish to give an extension to, change the any dates that need changing in the allow submission from, due date and cut off date sections and then click Save to make the changes.

  5. The next screen that appears will confirm the changes you have made.

Adding User Overrides in a Moodle Quiz

  1. Follow steps 1-3 above

  2. In the next box that appears, in the Search box, find the user/Group that you wish to make the changes to. Next you can change when you open the quiz, close the quiz and change the time limit. For example, if students have an LSP, you can change the time limit they have to take the exam here. To make the changes, click on the enable check box besides the different sections.

  3. Once you have made the changes, click on Save or if you want to add another override, click on save and enter another override.
