Activity Completion in Moodle
How to set up and make the most of Activity Completion
Step 1
You need to turn completion tracking on for the whole module first. Select the Course management button and Edit course settings.
Go down to Completion tracking and switch to ‘yes’.
Step 2
When adding any activities or resources to your course, consider whether you would like the completion of these to be tracked.
This might be so that you can ensure that students have covered certain key content, or because they need to complete certain activities before you know they will be prepared for others.
When you have input the main details of the activity, scroll down the page to Activity Completion.
You may then select the activity completion settings you wish to apply.
Depending on the settings you choose, a ‘Mark as done’ label will appear if a student must manually mark that the activity is complete. For Activity completion conditions, students will see a ‘To do’ grey label underneath the activity telling them what they need to complete. Once a student completes a condition, the box turns green and says ‘Done’
Step 3
A key advantage of adding activity completion to activities is that it then enables you to view the overall progress of your students on these activities.
If you would like to be able to see the progress of students in your module together in one place, you can add the Completion Progress block to your module.
At the bottom of your module page, you can find the Add a block option.
Select the Completion Progress block option.
Once your Completion Progress block is in place, you can open an Overview of students’ progress by selecting ‘Overview of students’.
You will then see a list of all students. Tasks highlighted in green are those completed. Students are able to see such an overview of their progress but not that of other students.
