Restricting Access by Group

Restricting Access by Group

Why would you want to restrict access to content in your course?

There are several reasons why you may want to restrict access to content in your Moodle course including:

  • Students submitting re-sit assignments

  • You have more than one strand in your Moodle course and only require students in a particular strand to see a resource or activity

  • Setting up forums for different groups of people

  • Restricting by year group in Programme Pages

How to set up Restrict Access in resources and activities

  1. In your Moodle course, Turn Editing On

  2. Go to the section, activity or resource you want to restrict access to.

  3. Click Edit and then Edit Settings to the right of the activity title.

  4. Scroll down to the Restrict access section and select Add restriction

  5. Select Group (If you haven’t set up any Groups in your Moodle course, see the Moodle Groups guide)

  6. Choose the Group form the drop-down list. To hide this group from students who do not need to see or access this content, click on the eye icon by the Group restriction and ensure the eye has a diagonal line through it.
