Moodle Assignment - Turnitin Plagiarism Plugin
What is the Turnitin Plagiarism Plugin?
We have now integrated the Turnitin Plagiarism plugin to Moodle assignments. This means it is now possible to see similarity reports within a Moodle assignment and still use the Moodle assignment features such as the ability to grade offline, upload feedback, and to use the group submission function, which are currently not possible within a Turnitin assignment.
When setting up a Moodle assignment now, you will see a new section called Turnitin plagiarism plugin Settings. This setting will allow you to enable similarity reports within a Moodle assignment.

Please note: If you are using this plugin in a Moodle assignment, you must mark using the Moodle assignment grading tools and not use the marking features within the Turnitin Feedback Studio. If you want to use Turnitin’s marking features, you should set up a Turnitin Assignment instead. The reason for this is that in some situations (group submission, overwriting grades and displaying summary feedback), Turnitin’s Feedback Studio does not communicate well with the Moodle assignment and therefore should not be used, thus avoiding any overwriting of any marks etc.
The Turnitin plugin should only be used for you and your students to check their similarity reports.
Limitations
Blind Marking and using the Grant Extension Feature
We would not advise using the grant extension feature when using anonymous/blind marking. When you reveal student identities, you will also reveal those identities of those who have been granted extension, even if the student has not yet submitted.
How do I Enable the Turnitin Plagiarism Plugin in My Moodle Assignment?
If you would like to enable similarity reports on your Moodle assignment, ensure the Enable Turnitin button is switched to Yes.
Turnitin Plagiarism Settings
Under Store student papers, consider whether you need to change this setting.
No repository should normally be set for formative/draft assignments, so the papers do not get stored in Turnitins database.
Standard repository should normally be set for summative assignments. This means that all assignments will get stored in Turnitins database and checked against other students’ submissions within the assignment, as well as other sources.
Please note: Do not add a Turnitin rubric here. Moodle assignments should be marked using the Moodle assignment grading tools. If you wish to mark using the Turnitin rubric and the Turnitin marking features, you will need to set up a Turnitin Assignment.
How Does the Similarity Report show on the Moodle Assignment and How To Access the Report
Once a student has submitted, when you click onto View all submissions within the Moodle assignment link, you will be able to see the similarity percentage under the File submissions column.
To access the similarity report, click on the similarity percentage. In the example below, this would mean clicking on the 11% button.
The Turnitin viewer will open. To access the report, click on Similarity Tools and then the Match Overview
