York St John University’s infrastructure is designed to provide robust, secure, and high-performing digital services to support its academic and administrative needs. Data centre services are managed to ensure high availability and resilience, with scheduled maintenance and upgrades such as those affecting the University’s connections via the TFTA Datacentre, communicated in advance to minimise disruption. Database management is supported by a range of integrations and downstream systems, with technical responsibility assigned within the ITS Apps Team to maintain data integrity and facilitate secure data transfers using methods like SFTP, APIs, and SQL agents. Monitoring and alerts management are in place to promptly detect and address incidents, as evidenced by system alerts and log collection processes that help maintain service reliability. Network and connectivity management is handled in partnership with national providers like JISC, ensuring that the University’s network remains resilient and that any scheduled outages are well-coordinated. Finally, server and storage management is centralised within the IT Service Catalogue, providing scalable and secure resources for both teaching and research, and ensuring that all digital assets are maintained according to best practices and compliance standards.
