Moodle Quiz User and Group Overrides
Overrides in Moodle Quizzes are a useful component in Quiz settings.
They can be used to manage groups or individual students who have a Learning Adjustment Plan (LAP), or student(s) who may require additional time in a quiz for another reason.
Using overrides enables Tutors to create a more inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
Group Override
In order to give a group of students (who may have an LAP) extra time, you can set up a ‘Group override’ within the same Quiz and those student who need more time will have the extra time automatically.
The Group just enter the exam like everyone else.
You set things up behind the scenes and they won’t notice anything different to their peers. The Quiz countdown timer will show a longer session than their peers.
You can also utilise a Group override if all students have experienced technical problems during an exam using a timed Moodle Quiz.
Steps to Add Students to a Group
Add the required students to an existing Group, or create a new Group:
Go to Course management (at the top by the module title).
Click on Groups (in the students column).
Create a 'MCQ - Students Extra time’ Group.
Click on this Group and then Add Users.
Steps to Add Group Override to the Quiz
Add the Group Override to the Quiz:
Click on the quiz on your Moodle page.
Go to ‘course management’ at the top by the module title.
Select ‘Group overrides’.
You will now need to enter the dates and times to ‘Close the quiz’ for that group.
You will need to enter the ‘Time limit’ in minutes and click enable (which will show a countdown timer for the students).
Click ‘Save’.
Individual Override
In order to give an individual student (who may have an LAP) extra time, you can set up a ‘User override’ within the same Quiz and that student who needs more time will have the extra time automatically.
The individual will just enter the exam like everyone else.

Click on the quiz on your Moodle page.

Select ‘User overrides’.
