Moodle Quiz - Safe Exam Browser
Students will be able to take a Moodle Quiz in a secure, locked down browser by utilising the Safe Exam Browser (SEB).
Recommended use: summative, invigilated exams on campus that use a Moodle Quiz assessment type.
SEB would need to be installed onto campus devices in advance.
Consult table below for list of YSJ computer rooms that have SEB pre-installed.
SEB can be downloaded to individual YSJ managed devices from the YSJ App Portal (YSJ App Portal - Accessing University Software).
If you want to download SEB to a personal device use this link.
Log a support request with TEL (via the IT Support Portal) if you need support configuring your Moodle Quiz.
TEL recommends that you (or your School Technician) check the Moodle Quiz in the computer room in advance of the exam.
Once students launch a SEB enabled quiz, they are prompted to re-enter their YSJ credentials to access Moodle.
In order for students to have a level of familiarisation with using SEB before the exam, we suggest that Tutors set up a Moodle Quiz (using SEB), as a formative assessment which students can take in their own time.
Students can download SEB to their personal device using this link or use the YSJ App Portal to download SEB on a university managed device.
A Moodle Quiz has settings that can be configured to allow secure exams using the Safe Exam Browser.
Key Points:
Once SEB has been set up in the Moodle Quiz, students will be able to attempt the quiz only if the device they are on has the SEB installed.
The SEB browser can only be closed once the quiz has been submitted.
If you require certain web pages or online resources to be available to the students during the exam, these can be made accessible by configuring the URL filter in the SEB settings.
Spell check is disabled but can optionally be allowed.
A URL or search field and back/forward navigation won’t appear in the browser window. This however can be configured to be accessible during an exam, using a URL filter.
Shortcut keys such as Win+Tab, Alt+Tab, Ctrl+Alt+Del, Alt+F4, Print Screen, Cmd+Tab are disabled.
The clipboard is cleared when starting and quitting Safe Exam Browser.
Locations on campus where SEB has been installed:
If you require SEB to be deployed in a computer room not listed below, please place a request (with plenty of advance notice), on the IT Support Portal.
