Course Recompletion Guide

Course Recompletion Guide

THIS PLUGIN IS ONLY AVAILABLE ON YSJ LEARN

Important Information:

This plugin is quite powerful; however, a downside to this is that it cannot delete or archive feedback activities.

Recompletion Plugin YSJ learn:

This plugin adds course-level settings for recompletion by clearing all course and activity completion for a user. It also notifies students that they need to return to the course and recomplete it.

Use this plugin for annual recertification.

The plugin deletes existing course and activity completion data based on the teacher's schedule, including the option to delete Quiz and SCORM attempts. You can also retain Quiz and SCORM attempts by archiving them within the recompletion plugin.

The following activities allow their data to be deleted and archived:

  1. Assignment - (You can also choose to give the student another attempt if the assignment is configured to allow reopening and the maximum number of attempts has not been reached)

  2. Quiz - (You can keep the existing attempts and give the student the ability to add new attempts)

  3. Choice activity

  4. SCORM

  5. LTI

  6. Lesson

  7. Core Hvpactivity and 3rd party mod_hvp plugins are supported

  8. Pulse - (resets notifications)

  9. Questionnaire

  10. Custom Certificate - (resets/removes the old certificate)

  11. Course Certificate

  12. Hotpot

Other activities that store user data will have their activity completion data reset, but may require manual intervention as they are not fully supported yet.

Before the recompletion tool is used it is recommended to download old certificates and store them in a shared OneDrive area if certificates need to be stored / archived.

Using the plugin:

Under course administration, find Course Recompletion in the right panel.

You will see two options:

  1. Course Recompletion

And

  1. Modify Course Completion Dates

To delete and archive specific activities or send customised messages, click the first option.

To reset course completion for all or specific users or select a course completion date, choose the second option.

Clicking on course recompletion settings opens this page:

Recompletion type:

Change the recompletion type from disabled to the setting that suits the course:

image-20260120-122155.png

  • Disabled - disables the plugin

  • Period - sets a recompletion period (e.g., every 60 days) based on the user's last course completion date

  • On Demand - lets teachers manually reset individual users

  • Schedule - sets recompletion on a specific date (e.g., 2 years Jan 21 14:00 will reset the course in 2 years time at that date and time specified)

Selecting period, on demand, or schedule adds two extra settings. The first sends a recompletion message, which you can customise in the custom recompletion message settings.

Additionally, after changing the recompletion type and saving, a new feature will appear called Reset my activity completion. This feature will allow any user to reset their own activity completion to re-do the course.

Custom recompletion message settings:

If you would like to send a customised message to the users make sure to have the checkbox ticked to send recompletion message you may also choose It is important to remember that the message will only be sent once recompletion of the course has been triggered.

Advanced Settings:

In advanced settings, you can choose what to delete.

You can delete all user grades and archive completion data. This lets teachers archive completion data instead of deleting it permanently after course completion.

Assign Attempts:

If 'Update on grade change' is enabled, updating an assignment grade for a user who completed the course updates their course completion date to the grade change date.

Deleting Certificates:

When deleting or archiving issued certificates, a warning appears depending on the certificate type. For Certificates (mod_coursecertificate), the warning states that deleting issued certificates without archiving prevents their verification in Moodle. Only delete certificates if this is acceptable.

For custom certificates (mod_customcert), deleting issued certificates, even after archiving, prevents their verification in Moodle. Only delete certificates if this is acceptable.

Restrictions:

The course recompletion plugin's restrictions feature lets you restrict a specific enrolment method. In the image below, adding a self-enrolment restriction resets activity completion for users enrolled through that method when triggered.

image-20260120-134757.png

The different types of enrolment methods that can be used for these restrictions are as follows:

  • Category enrolments

  • Cohort sync

  • External database

  • Enrolment on payment - (Not available on YSJ Learn)

  • Flat file (CSV)

  • Guest access

  • IMS Enterprise file

  • LDAP enrolments

  • Publish as LTI tool

  • Manual enrolments

  • Course meta link

  • MNet remote enrolments

  • PayPal - (Not available on YSJ Learn)

  • Self enrolment

Modify Course Completion Dates:

Pressing this feature gives you two options on the left side.

  1. Change Completion Date for Selected Users

And

  1. Reset All Completion For Selected Users

Selecting the first option lets you change the completion date for all or specific users.

The completion date is when Moodle records the learner last finished the course. The Recompletion plugin uses this date to determine when the user must retake the course.

Changing this date does not reset the user’s activity completion.
It only updates the date Moodle considers the course “completed.”

Selecting the second option resets activity completion for all or specific users. Possible uses for this feature would be used for training courses where users must revisit and redo all activities.
